On Wednesday December 31, 2008, the Museum will host its fourth annual Noontime New Year: An International Celebration. Noontime New Year was created to provide families with young children an opportunity to celebrate the New Year together in an environment that fosters cultural awareness and promotes a sense of community. Building upon the theme of this highly anticipated annual event, Port Discovery expanded the celebration to an international level beginning in 2006. Israel was the first featured country, followed by Greece and then Japan. This year's featured country is Italy. Through cultural programs and performances, children and families will have the opportunity to learn about the culture, traditions and heritage of the Italian culture. Special guest MPT's Bob the Vid Tech will be hosting the countdown at noon from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm!

MPT's Bob the Vid Tech
Bob Heck – with his distinctive green jacket, snazzy ties, and purple shirt – has served as Maryland Public Television's super-enthusiastic children's host BOB THE VID TECH since 1992. Every day, Bob appears between MPT's regularly scheduled children's programs to impart short educational lessons on a variety of topics including numbers, letters, shapes, sharing, art and music.
