Description
Diane Hoffman, JD, MS
Professor of Law
Associate Dean of Academic Programs
Law & Health Care Program, DirectorUniversity of Maryland School of Law
During the last two decades, the use of DNA tests for identification has revolutionized court proceedings in criminal and paternity cases. On the horizon is a new challenge for judgesâ&128;&148;whether to admit or compel genetic tests to confirm or predict genetic diseases and conditions in judicial contexts. Professor Hoffmann will discuss the unique doctrinal, scientific and public policy considerations that underlie decisions and the collateral consequences of wide-scale use of the tests in the courtroom including how we, as a society, think about responsibility, privacy and justice.
