Description
Bound to Please explores the art and the science of an array of decorative finishing features and styles, from gilt tooled bindings to fore-edge paintings--scenes painted on the edges of a book that can only be viewed when the pages are fanned. More than 60 beautifully decorated rare books will be displayed, along with some of the tools and materials used by finishers to design and create these artistic forms.
The exhibition opens Thursday, November 6, at The Johns Hopkins University&39;s George Peabody Library, 17 E. Mount Vernon Place.
