The Sabbatical Exhibition showcases the work of faculty members who have taken a semester away from MICA during the 2008-2009 academic year to explore new themes, develop old ones, or further their artistic careers.
Art history faculty Kerr Houston, for example, spent part of his sabbatical writing an article on the representation of religion in Persepolis and working on a book on art criticism, and part preparing new courses. Scheduled to teach a class on Islamic art and architecture next spring, he traveled to Tunisia and Syria to visit and to sketch from the mosques of Kairouan and Damascus, among other sites.
