About Austin City Hall in Austin
Description
The limestone, copper-clad Austin City Hall and plaza is a landmark just north of Town Lake designed to be a community gathering place for public discussion and civic discourse.
The four-story structure, unveiled to the public in November 2004, emphasizes the city's culture of environmental friendliness, high-tech leadership and public involvement in government.
The complex at 301 W. Second St. covers the downtown block bordered by Cesar Chavez Street on the south; Second Street on the north; Guadalupe Street on the west; and Lavaca Street on the east.
The building with its odd angles and sharp point overhanging Second Street will serve as an anchor for the evolving Second Street Retail District. Cultural arts performances will make use of the stage on the plaza.
