Barad Duin is more than just a live action role-playing game. It's recreation, Renaissance Faire style! It's Arts & Crafts. It's a Sport. We get together on Saturdays 4-5 pm to 9-10pm at Old Settlers Park, 330 Palm Valley, Round Rock TX, Behind the Dell Diamond. Once in the park, turn right on Whitlow Way and look for The Virg Robb Pavilion. Contact Info: skyeds@tex1.net or call 512-269-6309. We fight battle games, do arts & crafts, ride horses, eat drink and be merry together. Knights, Equestrians, Warriors, Monks, Druids, Archers and Lizard Men divide into teams and engage in battle with padded weapons, verbal spells, shiny armor, colorful spell balls, bows & arrows, and horses! A typical game lasts fifteen to twenty minutes, and we hold two or three on an average weekend.

Courts

Two to four times a year, we hold Events, inviting others to camp, fight in special Quest games, share arts & crafts, eat a Feast, roleplay in Court, and sing songs around the campfire.

Roleplay

Who do you want to be? Choose a character / persona for yourself. Many base their character on the class they play on the field, such as Sir Shamus the Knight, Rufus the Wizard or Erik the Barbarian. Others prefer to focus on what they or their character do off the field, such as Jorlan the Smith or Bella the Gypsy horsewoman.

Costumes

Whether on the battle field or at Court, we wear costumes that help us to become our characters. The rule of thumb is anything Medieval-Fantasy in nature: everything from cloaks and frilly dresses that take hours to create to elaborate monster costumes or simple tunics sewn from a dollar's worth of cloth.

Arts & Crafts (Arts & Sciences):

Art and Science pertains to virtually anything. You can find people in Barad Duin who participate in many different types of arts. Drawing, painting, sewing, cooking, armoring, weapon making, leatherworking and horse dancing are all examples of art. Barad Duin provides opportunities for artisans of all types. If you do needlework, metal smithing, leatherwork, or jewelry crafts, or if you sing and dance, or if you like to cook, we welcome you to show off your talents. Or, if you would like to learn any of these things, there are plenty willing to teach in workshops designed for all levels of skill.

Weapons? Armor? Horses?

Everything we do is geared around fun and safety. Our swords and shields are made from sturdy materials carefully wrapped in foam and cloth so that nobody gets hurt. Thrown weapons are just cloth and tape. Many choose to make their own armor: everything from simple leather tunics to elaborate chain-maile and even full plate! Everything's padded but the horses ;-)

Looking for something for your kids to do that doesn't involve the tv or video games? Looking for something to do with your boyfriend or husband that doesn't involve watching sports? Looking for something fun to do on the weekends? Get the whole family involved in a game that has something for everyone to enjoy. Hit each other with padded sticks, throw padded things at each other, it's good exercise ;-) It doesn't cost anything to play the game. Creating your own weapons or costumes for your character costs money, but not playing the game, but all that is up to you. Give us an afternoon, and we'll give you a good time and a new outlook! Call or Email Skye at skyeds@tex1.net or 512-269-6309, and come out on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, and we'll share all of our toys with you :-)
