The Blue Theater (Austin)

Refraction Arts Project manages the Blue Theater, a versatile performance space on the East side of Austin which opened in Summer 2000. The Blue Theater houses two performances spaces. The main space is a thrust with a seating capacity of approximately 100. The smaller space is proscenium space that seats about 40 people.

When the Refraction Arts is not producing something at the Blue Theater, the company makes the space available for rental to other arts groups and organizations. Located at 916 Springdale Road, just north of 7th Street, a couple miles east of I-35, the Blue Theater is easy to find:

To get to the Blue Theater, head East on 7th Street past I-35. Keep heading east a few miles, cross over rail road tracks, cross Pleasant Valley, cross a land bridge and look for Springdale immediately on your left (next light after Pleasant Valley). Take a left onto Springdale (used tires on the corner) and cross over another set of rail road tracks and look to your left for the Goodwill sign. The next entrance on your left into the complex of warehouses is the one you want. Look for the Blue Theater sign on the gate. Go straight to the back, past all the trucks, and look for our brand-spanking-new neon sign that says "Theatre". Park. You have found it at last. See you there!
