The Civic Center first opened in 1967 as the city’s convention center before undergoing extensive renovations in 2001. Also in 2001, the Civic Center was renamed to honor one of the city’s most well known philanthropists, Boisfeuillet Jones. The current Atlanta Civic Center facility features 4,600 theater-style seats, 5,800 square feet of meeting space and the largest performance stage in the Southeast. Since opening, the Atlanta Civic Center has become one of the city’s main venues for the biggest names in live entertainment.The Civic Center schedule has hosted a wide variety of distinguished events on a local, national and international level. One of the Civic Center’s biggest claims to fame is its role as one of the main venues for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
