Event details: Captain Planet's 15th Annual X-Mas Party
Description
Captain Planet Foundation Chairperson, Laura Turner Seydel, joins X-MAS Party Event Chair, Sacha Taylor, in presenting “Rock the Earth,” calling each of us to be part of a movement to change the planet.
The event, celebrating its 15th year in 2009, is like no other in Atlanta. The festive, “must attend” evening is filled with live musical performances by renowned artists & entertainers and dancing. Clearly one of Atlanta’s most-anticipated parties, it is held every year in December at the Tabernacle in Downtown Atlanta.
The event goal is not only to raise awareness of our planet’s important environmental challenges, but also to raise money in order to provide grants to schools and youth organizations for “hands-on” eco-education projects.
CPF’s current primary focus is ‘Captain Planet’s Learning Gardens,’ an environment-based education initiative that attaches curriculum to ‘outdoor classrooms,’ or learning gardens, in schools. These gardens, especially in elementary schools, help students learn science, math, social studies and language arts through the course of planting, maintaining and harvesting the garden. The pilot program’s curriculum is aimed at increasing standardized test scores and environmental literacy among elementary school children. The pilot has been launched in Cobb County Public Schools this fall and will continue to expand through the county, then around the Atlanta area, and eventually nationwide. Those who attend the 2009 X-MAS Party will be able to experience and view ‘Captain Planet’s Learning Gardens.’
