African Studies @ NOON at Ohio University

The African Studies @ NOON session this Friday will feature a presentation titled ''Gender and Nation-Formation: Mozambique in Mia Couto''s Sleepwalking Land'' by Dr Arthur Hughes, Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Languages here at Ohio University. Sleepwalking Land presents several female characters whose diversity represents the broad range of strategies employed by postcolonial nations to gender the nation. Ranging from the biological reproducers of its members through transmitters of national culture, Couto''s multiple configurations of the female body and identity both posit and undercut the role of women and national identity. The discussion will be held from 12-1pm in the Multicultural Center at Baker.
