Jan Johansson, - FIDDLE WORKSHOP

The event at hand - a bluegrass fiddle workshop with Jan Johansson is part of the Bluegrass First Class festival in Asheville, NC on Feb 18, 2012.The main focus of this workshop is fiddle back-up. I will be discussing strategies and approaches to playing behind a vocalist in a band context. One of the most important - but also most neglected - aspects of Bluegrass fiddle playing is the ability to provide an appropriate accompaniment to vocal music. I will teach this class with a guitar player/lead singer in order to make this demonstration as comprehensive and informative as possible. The songs used as examples for the workshop will be standard bluegrass number such as Will The Circle Be Unbroken, Blue Ridge Cabin Home, Can't You hear Me Calling...I will cover the keys of G and A to start with and - if time permits - go on to the key of B and other keys utilizing closed position playing.
