      Baby Sign and Play

Babies can communicate in a variety of ways - crying, gesturing, and eventually first words. However, in the early stages of language development it can be frustrating to understand and effectively communicate with our small children. Sign language can be a great catalyst for two-way communication between parents and children, but knowing what signs to use, how to elicit signs, and what children are capable of can be overwhelming. Join me, Xochitl Skora, for a fun, informative, and hands-on sign language class. This class will discuss the theory behind sign language communication with children, ways to engage in active play with your kids, and introduce signs to better communicate with your child. This class will provide an opportunity for hands-on practice and guidance. Xochitl Skora has worked with children for over 15 years in the capacity of preschool teacher and bilingual speech language pathology assistant. She holds Associates in General Education and Speech Language pathology Assistant as well as a B.S. in Early Childhood Education. While sign language can be used by caregivers with children of all ages, for the purpose of this class we recommend that babies age 9 months and older attend with a caregiver. Parents/caregivers of newborn to 9 months of age are eligible to attend as well to learn how to begin implementation of sign language in your home.
