St. Augustine's Episcopal Church

To: Rev. Andrea Hayden, the people of St. Augustine's and the community, I am looking forward to being with you for "Jazz Mass Remembering Martin" on Sunday, March 30th. Years ago the words of Martin Luther King were used to put the Berlin, Germany Jazz Concert into proper context. Jazz has the capacity to unify rather than divide people. Jazz, as is true for all music, demonstrates that different instruments and the human voice can combine to create beautiful and brilliant music. My prayer is that in many ways the event will be a "Unity in the Community Event", when we come together acknowledging all of our differences, yet knowing that our similarities are far greater than our differences. A "Jazz Remembering Martin" event is not a divisive event where we highlight our differences in theology, denomination, faith, politics and point of view. Instead we come together expecting the Sprit and the music to make us one. "I expect to see your face in the place." As Duke Ellington used to say; "I love you madly". Rev.
