Signature Theatre
ABOUT SIGNATURE THEATRE Founded in 1990, Signature Theatre broadens and brightens the region’s cultural landscape with its bold productions of Broadway-quality musicals and daring new plays performed in an intimate space. In addition to the finest talent from the DC metropolitan area as well as New York, Signature has been a home to such theater luminaries as Cameron Mackintosh, Terrence McNally, John Kander and Fred Ebb, and, of course, Stephen Sondheim. In its 18 years under Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer, Signature has received 212 Helen Hayes Award nominations and 54 Hayes Awards. Signature’s 2007-08 Season features more than 400 performances of seven full productions (five of which are musicals), a cabaret series, and satellite artistic events. Signature gives back to the community through education and outreach programs including two comprehensive arts education programs, a performance training institute co-presented with the Kennedy Center, and a free public lecture series co-hosted by the Arlington County Public Library. In 2007, Signature moved into a dramatic, new $16 million theater complex just minutes from Washington, DC in the vibrant urban Arlington area of Shirlington Village. Its two unique state-of-the-art black box theaters are home to theatrical work that will attract more than 80,000 patrons annually.
