Imbolc, February 2nd, is a feast of Brigid, and a fire celebration. A Brigid's Cross is a symbol of the Irish goddess Brigid, and protects the hearth and home. This cross can be woven and hung in any room or door of the house. The front door or above the hearth are good places to hand this cross. These are great gifts at new home blessings, or can be hung in your existing home. You can make a Brigid's Cross out of many materials, but straw seems to work best. According to Wikipedia, "In Christian mythology, St. Brigid and her cross are linked together by a story about her weaving this form of cross at the death bed of either her father or a pagan lord, who upon hearing what the cross meant, asked to be baptized." Join us as we make a Brigid's Cross to give as gifts or to place in our homes for protection and blessing. I will bring materials, but if you wish to bring your own materials, feel free to do so.
