Supporting Acts: Ang & The Damn Band
Rone
By no means your ordinary rapper, Rone brings a fresh perspective to hip hop. With a style that spans from freestyle battle rapping to songwriting and crooning, it is apparent that his sound is new, unique and ever-developing. Rone currently works with Dice Raw of the Legendary Roots Crew as well as his fleet of producers, many of whom have been instrumental in the production of the recent Root’s albums. He has shared the stage with artists such as Asher Roth, Cory Gunz, Wiz Khalifa, Dice Raw, and LMFAO. His major influences in life are marijuana, alcohol, women and a daily desire to live the shit out of life. As far as strictly musical influences? Rone enjoys the complete rapping skills and pedigree of the likes of Biggie, Black Thought and Eminem. He appreciates the grandiosity and magnitude of acts like the Kings of Leon and the Black Keys. Favorite songwriters include John Mayer and Regina Spektor. Finally, he admires the individuality of a Gwen Stefani, the conviction of a Will Smith and the versatility of a Kid Rock.
Don McCloskey
If you were at either sold-out performances of “The Nightman Cometh” starring the cast of It’s Always Sunny at the Tower Theater in 2009, you may have asked yourself, “Who was the opening act who did the mash-up of The Action News Theme Song, White Rabbit and Peter Gabriel’s Games Without Frontiers? And furthermore, why? The answer to the first question is Don McCloskey. The second question is harder to answer. There’s a wide breadth to what this eclectic, independent, Brooklyn-based songwriter and performer tackles musically and lyrically. McCloskey has developed a dedicated fan base and has been selling out venues large and small in Philadelphia for almost a decade. His music has appeared cross platform on Philly radio from WXPN to WMMR and has been featured in everything from MTV’s reality show The Hills to Michael Moore’s Academy Award-winning documentary, Bowling For Columbine. Several songs of his have appeared in episodes of Sunny, including this season’s upcoming “High School Reunion” episode and his unabashed jock jam “Unstoppable” is played at every Phillies postseason home game since 2009. McCloskey manages to will these disparate musical worlds together to make for a cohesive, energetic and compelling live show. In addition to his own national touring he has toured in support of Donavon Frankenreiter and G Love and Special Sauce. Hot on the heels of recording his newest album with Philly record producer, Bill Moriarty, McCloskey brings his eclectic universe to Milkboy Philly for the second time on Saturday, June 23rd.
