To paraphrase the old adage, if Wayward Roots didn't already exist, we'd have to invent them. With one foot in Michigan and one in the hills of Appalachia - the Roots have cut their teeth individually and as a band with consistent local and regional performances over the last several years. Joined by Jason Dennie in 2011, they traveled West to participate in the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition and represented themselves and Michigan nicely with a first runner-up finish. They have a sound that's both old and strikingly new; steeped in the bluegrass and roots tradition with a predilection toward a new acoustic style and an occasional detour into the far-out zone. Collectively, their sense of humor, distinct songwriting and individual chops make a Wayward Roots show as much fun for the listener as it is for the group to share.
