Join us for this festive, annual MCA tradition where we decorate a tree with Christmas ornaments and then ski back to Williwaw Lakes, or as close to the lakes as we can get (distance achieved depends on the weather). Bring a non-fragile ornament to hang on the tree or I'll bring extra ornaments from past years' trips. Feel free to wear holiday clothing or hats and bring Christmas goodies to share with others. Backcountry ski/Christmas tree decorating trip to Williwaw Lakes at Anchorage, Alaska, United States

We usually sing Christmas carols during breaks and engage in carefree frivolity. If there's interest, we can spot cars at Prospect Heights and ski down to that trailhead and catch a ride back up to Glen Alps. Or, we can do what we did last year and ski the long loop from Glen Alps to Williwaw Lakes down to Prospect Heights and back up to Glen Alps. (Whew!) Post a comment indicating where you want to finish skiing so we can arrange shuttle cars. This trip is appropriate for beginning backcountry skiers, but not beginning skiers. Bring backcountry ski gear, warm layers, lunch, snacks, water and a cheerful sense of humor. If there isn't much snow (PERISH THAT THOUGHT) we can use snowshoes. I always pick up the ornaments after New Year's Day so don't worry about leaving "litter" hanging on a tree. Bring extra string or something to firmly tie your ornament to the tree as it gets windy up there. We'll meet at the Glen Alps parking lot around 9:45 a.m. and watch the sunrise as we prepare to head out. Dogs: As usual, please leave your dogs at home.
