Anchorage Zen Community Midnight Sesshin 5-day retreat This five-day residential retreat spanning 2009 and 2010 will include periods of zazen (sitting meditation), kinhin (walking meditation), teisho (daily talks), dokusan (individual interviews with the teacher) as well as traditional ceremonies and formal meals using oryoki. Partial participation in the sesshin is a possibility; if you have concerns, please inquire. When: Wednesday, December 30th - Monday, January 4th Where: Meier Lake Conference Center, Wasilla, Alaska The facility: Meier Lake Conference Center is located where the Matanuska and Susitna Valleys come together and is convenient to Anchorage, Palmer and Wasilla. All sesshin activities will take place in SymondÃÂ's Hall, which includes an upstairs dormitory for women and shared downstairs bedrooms for men. There are restrooms with showers on both floors. Participants must bring a sleeping bag or bedding and should expect to share in meal preparation and cleanup. Some participants who register late may sleep on the floor in a common room. Out-of-town participants: Pre- and post-sesshin housing options include many fine hotels in Anchorage offering attractive winter rates. Ride-sharing from Anchorage to Meier Lake will be available. The schedule: Sesshin begins Wednesday afternoon, December 30th with set-up, orientation, and an informal meal. The silent sesshin officially starts with zazen at 7:30 pm Wednesday evening. The daily schedule begins at 4 am and ends at 8:55 pm with closing bells. We will continue in this way until late morning on Monday, January 4th. We will depart after an informal lunch.
