In 2002, Henry Rollins warned, "You will get down on your filthy knees and crawl to the altar that is Ween" and this September Southern California Ween fans will have the chance to do just that when the alt-rock duo performs at the Grove of Anaheim, Thursday, September 2.

Dean and Gene Ween (Mickey Melchiondo and Aaron Freeman) formed Ween after meeting in an 8th grade typing class in 1984. Their early recordings were anarchic and free-spirited, drawing on influences as far-reaching as Syd Barrett, The Beatles, Queen, Prince, Butthole Surfers, and the lo-fi punk movement. Pure Guava (1992) was the first of a series of releases on the Elektra label and featured Ween's highest charting single, "Push Th' Little Daisies" which gained media attention and the video was highlighted on MTV's Beavis and Butt-head. In 1994 they released Chocolate and Cheese followed, heralding 70s pop/rock and soul influenced tracks such as "Freedom of '76" and "Voodoo Lady," which appeared on the Road Trip (2000) soundtrack. Ween has released seven studio albums since 1994, including their most recent album La Cucaracha in 2007. High Times states, "With each studio effort, Freeman and Melchiondo explored and deconstructed new genres, developing an appreciable mastery of each while finding ways to lovingly tweak and satirize them, rendering a final product that is always irreverently and undeniably Ween." La Cucaracha was named the 2007 Album of the Year by Magnet magazine.

In concert, Ween is larger-than-life. Austin Scaggs of Rolling Stone said it best when reviewing their Live in Chicago DVD (2004), "Ween's epic three-hour gigs need to be seen. In person." For their live shows, Dean and Gene call on keyboardist Glenn McClelland, bass player Dave Dreiwitz and drummer Claude Coleman to bring the duo's digitally layered music to life. In a live review, High Times noted, "Together, the five musicians eschew many of the vocal effects and strange studio sounds that pervade the original material and, with live instruments, seek to inject a raw and rollicking energy that leaves fans tantalized and salivating for more."

Don't miss your chance to check out Ween live on September 2 at the Grove!
