Nestled on the Merrimac and PowWow rivers, Amesbury has grown signifcantly since it was first incorporated in 1630. Although once widely known for carriage making, the town quickly came into larger industries such as shipbuillding and mills. The walk features several parks including, Alliance Park, where the Frigate Alliance was built. It was one of the first war vessels built in America, serving as a flagship for John Paul Jones. The walk also passes the Amesbury home of John Greenleaf Whittier, other historic sites, views of the Merrimac and PowWow rivers and a 2K riverwalk along a walk/bike path.
