Event details: Ubuntu Linux 9.10 Launch and Install-fest
Description
The local Linux users group will be holding an Ubuntu 9.10 launch party and install-fest on Novermber 7, 2009 at The Refuge, 4400 S Washington from noon until 6:00 pm.
Linux is a free open source computer operating system, on par with Microsoft Windows and Apple's OSX. Linux isn't produced by any one entity, but instead is contributed to by thousands of developers all over the world. Linux has no associated licensing structure, and is completely free for anyone to download and use. It is free in the monetary sense of the word, as well as free in the sense of liberty. This makes Linux an excellent and cheap alternative to Microsoft Windows and Apple products.
Ubuntu is just one version of Linux. It is widely known one of the most user friendly Linux distributions available today. It is also one of the most widely supported and documented distributions. Linux can be a little intimidating for an inexperience computer user. That's why we are here. We are offering to the public the chance to try out Linux absolutely free or charge. I think you'll agree that in tight economic times, this is especially appealing.
All are welcome to bring in their computer, laptop or desktop. We will inspect it to make sure it is compatible with Linux--most machines are. If the computer hardware is Linux suppported, we will offer to install Linux on the computer, free of charge. Our group will also offer absolutely free support via Internet Relay Chat (IRC), our web forum, and at bi-monthly meetings.
Everyone is welcome!
