Description
This event celebrates the holiday season as well as the annual Scottish Christmas Walk Parade and other festivities in the city of Alexandria. One trail will be offered. The "Riverfront Ramble" will weave along the waterfront of Old Town Alexandria, enabling walkers to enjoy the sites, sounds, tastes, and shopping opportunities of this historic area. The trail will take you near the Scottish Christmas parade route. The 10 KM (6.2 mile) trail will explore both southern and northern Old Town; the 5 KM (3.1 mile) trail will stay in the northern half of Old Town. Both trails are rated 1+ because they are generally flat with very limited hills. Both are generally suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, and disability scooters. The longer trail offers restrooms, water, food, and shopping. (The suitability of the trails for wheeled vehicles or even for walking may be inhibited if weather conditions become adverse.)

Kate Waller Barrett Branch Library
The Barrett Branch Library was built in 1937 and named in honor of Kate Waller Barrett, a humanitarian, social crusader and political reformer. The Branch serves the Old Town section of Alexandria and offers an outstanding popular collection of adult and juvenile books and audiovisual materials. In addition, the library provides eight Internet and word processing stations for free public use as well as wireless Internet access. The facility was renovated and expanded in 1995 and has recently undergone some minor reconfiguration to house the historical and genealogical research collections from the former Lloyd House Branch, which relocated in April 2000.
