Walking Event: Los Poblanos Explora

This new walk for 2010 starts at the Los Ranchos de Albuquerque Los Poblanos Fields Open Spaces farm along the Rio Grande. The walk wanders through a farm area with a Maize Maze in the fall and travels along irrigation canals that meander past gorgeous modern adobe homes, as well as old homesteads that still maintain farmland in the fertile Rio Grande bosque through the middle of Albuquerque. Along the trail you can see plenty wildlife, such as roadrunners, geese, cranes and much more. For the 10 and 14 km distances you will also cross the Rio Grande and have a chance to view this famous river from two overlooks with loads of information on signs created by the students from the Bosque School. At the far end of the 14 km trail is the city Open Spaces Visitor Center with fields for viewing migratory birds and art and history displays to acquaint you with the vast amount of open spaces in the city and the history of the river area.
