Fred Matiangi, Ph.D., serves as the Kenya Country Director for SUNYs Center for International Development in Nairobi and leads the USAID Parliamentary Strengthening Program (PSP) in Kenya. Dr. Matiangi will discuss the current state of play in Kenyan politics from the vantage point of one of the Kenya National Assemblys closest strategic partners.
Dr. Matiangi has led SUNYs Parliamentary Strengthening Program in Kenya since July 2006. He works closely with leadership and staff of the Kenya Parliament; contributes to SUNYs regional initiatives in East Africa; supervises the Parliamentary Internship Program; and collaborates with MPs and staff, USAID, other donors, and leaders in the civil society and private sector spheres in activities to support Parliament. He established the Parliamentary Initiatives Network (PIN) to promote structured engagement between civil society organizations (CSOs) and Parliament. Dr. Matiangi served previously as the Deputy Director and Head of Programs at the Institute for Education in Democracy (IED), a prominent NGO working in the area of electoral process monitoring. He has also been a columnist with the Daily Nation, Kenyas leading Newspaper, and is currently on leave of absence from the University of Nairobi.
