Grant Lee Phillips (Opened by The Winter Pills)

Grant-Lee Phillips is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for his versatile voice, intense lyrical narratives and dexterity on the acoustic twelve-string guitar, a style that often sees him compared to Young, Springsteen and Dylan. He may be best known as the voice and vision of the critically acclaimed group Grant Lee Buffalo, but to see and hear his solo material like the intimate Ladies' Love Oracle, Mobilize, the folky, almost-country Virginia Creeper, and the gripping Strangelet, is to bear witness to both a visionary and one of the most important songwriters of his generation. The new album "Little Moon" is due to hit the shelves sometime in September and you can be sure that Grant-Lee will be mixing in plenty of new songs to go with his deep catalog of gems. This is one performance not to be missed!

Opening the show will be The Winter Pills. At the core of Central Chambers, their newest album and third overall, the Northampton, Mass. quintet maintains its signature chamber-indie ambience while exploring new grounds sonically and lyrically. In it, you’ll hear production running the gamut from boombox lo-fi to crisp studio sonorousness; dense rockers balanced by quiet hymns; and an overall diversity in instruments and textures. All of this backs the wandering words of songwriter Philip Price, and here we can see him condensing his meditative lyrical approach into mantras contemplating the frailty of humanity.
