Winter Dance Showcase 2012

Location: Akron Civic Theatre

Come and join us for a wonderful evening of performance with Verb Ballets, The University of Akron Dance Company and acclaimed Trumpeter - Josh Rzepka.

The evening will start with the University of Akron Dance Company performing two beautiful pieces of contemporary dance

The stage will then welcome Josh Rzepka, one of northeast Ohio's best trumpeters.

Closing the evening will be Verb performing four pieces, including three by Heinz Poll:
-Eight By Benny (excerpts)
-Duet
-Bolero

There will be one new work on the program, called Otra Luna and choreographed by Troy McCarty with the support of the Gay Endowment Fund of the Akron Community Foundation. It takes place in the era immediately after WWII in Argentina, when Eva Peron was in power. It includes footage of her funeral and some spoken words about her. The scene is a busy street in Buenos Aires and the music of Argentine tango is in the air. Many kinds of relationships are going on at the same time; straight couples, gay couples, singles, multiples and all are bound by their connection to Peron and the rebellious spirit of the time.
